All my life, I’ve carried a deep desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. It's more than just a wish – it's a need, a kind of calling that fills my heart. If I had a magic wand, I'd use it to heal minds and uplift spirits, bringing joy and well-being to everyone I meet. This yearning has shaped my journey and continues to guide my choices, constantly pushing me to seek ways to bring light into people's lives.

Over time, I found that this drive to bring joy and support to others naturally blended with my work. I discovered that leading teams was the perfect space for me to fulfil this purpose. Leadership, for me, is not about being in charge – it's about serving. It means lifting people up, helping them discover strengths they didn't know they had, and guiding them to overcome challenges. It's about creating an environment where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued.

When I lead, it never feels like just a job; it's a chance to help others grow, to be a catalyst for their success, and to share… Read more

  • Gemma Hiett

I'm Gemma and I train lawyers in developing their soft skills. (Soft, but not always easy). I liken it to a car. The engine is your technical horse power. But an engine alone is not going anywhere. Your soft skills are all the bits you build around the engine that gives you somewhere to sit and something to steer with. If you want a high-performance car, you need the high-spec engine, but you also need some really high-spec interiors and this is what I do.

I've been working in talent and leadership development roles in large multinational organisations for over 15 years. I now work in a global law firm, heading up the Leadership & Learning team for the EMEA region.

In this role, I create and run learning programmes for lawyers at all stages of their career, from junior lawyers all the way through to partners. In particular, I work extensively with senior lawyers as they navigate the transition to partner and I run the annual assessment centre that all lawyers must pass before making partner.… Read more

I am a proud father of three. I was born in Michigan, and when I was four, our apartment burned down and we moved to Texas. We had very little, and I used my imagination to escape.

After ten years of dealing with an abusive and alcoholic husband, my mom took us to school one day and we never went back. At the end of the day, we were taken to Salvation Army and given dinner, a night stay, breakfast, and lunch.

I remember my mom explaining to the cook that she had arranged with her social worker for us to be there.  After he confirmed it, he asked what we all wanted to eat, because he had never cooked lunch for anyone.  We chose Hamburgers and french fries which made him smile.  I wish I could find him to thank him for his kindness.

After lunch, we were each handed one paper bag of clothes and put on a bus to California to live with my great aunt. My mom looked for a place for nine months and we moved to the High Desert.  … Read more

I was born, raised and educated in Manchester. I studied Design and Art Direction with dreams of becoming a graphic designer, but I knew deep down my heart was invested in art, music and writing. I currently live in Blyth, Northumberland.

As an artist my work is in several private collections across the world and has featured in many books and magazines, in 2019 I was shortlisted for the Refresh Art Prize and my music has featured on BBC Radio 3 Late Junction. I have also had several poems published in books and magazines across the world. Some of these poems have now become songs with my transatlantic band DVEC. A musical duo who have never met. All the music and words are created through emails.

Growing up without television for company, I became an avid reader. This brought me the not so enviable title of, “The 14-year-old boy who had read more books than anyone else in the entire history of the school.” I am pretty sure that title was invented for me by the English teacher that morning. The title came with a book token and plenty of playground mockery. I didn… Read more

I’m not what you would call a conventional writer, I have spent most of my working life as an architectural designer. Yet, in many ways writing feels a natural extension to drawing.

Cancer Do’s & Don’ts is not only my first book, it is also the closest to my heart. I began writing it after seeing my mother-in-law grapple with terminal cancer. In total, four family members have had cancer, including my dad, who passed away from bladder cancer.

As I saw them go through their ordeal, I couldn’t help but ask, What would I do if I got struck with cancer? The answer isn’t always the same for everyone, but unsurprisingly it’s often something we already know.

Without a doubt writing has benefited me immensely. I have learnt so much from it. It has also enabled me to get things off my chest and it has been pretty cathartic. I’m at the beginning of my writing journey and Cancer Do’s & Don’ts… Read more

I am a copyright lawyer and a partner at Gunnercooke LLP.  I have also worked  as a screenwriter, TV producer and author. I have been advising creative people on copyright contracts and disputes for over 21 years.  I wrote Copyright Made Easy to share some of these experiences.

I wrote episodes  of BBC TV’s ChuckleVision back in the 1990’s – getting the seriousness of university studies out of my system with a healthy dose of slapstick. More recently, I was one of the creators and producers of Monty and Co, a live-action comedy drama for pre-schoolers, featuring the misadventures of a hysterical wallaby.  Series one was bought by the BBC’s CBeebies channel and launched in 2021.

Creative rights have always been extremely important to me, as time and time again I have seen creative people get ripped off or lose control their work.   This led me to get involved with campaigns for creative rights.  I was the Chair of the wr… Read more

I was born in Bristol on 14 of April 1936. I experienced the first Bristol blitz and, after further raids, I was evacuated to Somerset, finally settling in Cheddar.

Before my father was called up, he had regularly read to me from Rupert annuals, pointing out the words. So, by four I could read fluently. My love of reading and writing earned me a scholarship to Merrywood Grammar School where I received an excellent education. I was introduced to drama, basketball, cricket and Youth Hostelling and from a shy lad I was transformed into… who I am today.

I obtained 9 GCE “O” levels and 2 “A” levels. It was inevitable I would choose teaching as my career  I trained as a mature student at St Luke's College, Exeter, and obtained my first post as a teacher at Speedwell Boy’s School, Bristol. … Read more

I am the illustrator of the book The Adventures of Charlie Crab and Friends, also, the granddaughter of the author, Alan Williams. I studied art and design for three years at college then fine art at university. I am currently working as a Visual Merchandiser.

I grew up hearing the stories that Gramps read to his children and all my cousins (there’s a lot of us!) his grandchildren.

So, bringing Charlie Crab and friends to life for the whole family has been really special but also a bit daunting. It has given me so much experience in the world of illustration and I love it!

Seeing how far my drawings have come is really cool. The initial concepts for Charlie Crab and friends were sketched on paper with watercolours and were very rough. To have now the images created digitally and fully shaped into a book is madness! … Read more

My dad is my hero and inspiration. It is wanting to see his name as an author that drives me to fulfil the dream of publishing his stories.

I am one of four children to Alan and Christine Williams. We were brought up in a village in North Bristol. I can still remember vividly our family holidays to Devon where the stories of Charlie Crab first originated.

Those who have met my dad will say he is hard to forget. At 87 he is still telling his stories to his great-grandchildren and I use them in my work with children.

I learnt so many life skills from our time on the beaches, rock pools and cliffs without realising it. Overcoming my fear of heights, feeling safe and secure in the middle of the night with strange noises all around me, making new friends and memories, managing my pocket money to spend on the last night!… Read more

The art and power of storytelling permeate every aspect of our lives, shaping our experiences and connecting us on a profound level. Stories have the ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and can ignite our imaginations, transporting us to different worlds and perspectives. Each part of a story, from its characters to its plot twists, offers opportunities for action and triggers reactions within us.

For me, storytelling has become the umbrella that encompasses everything I do. Whether working with startups, business owners, international SMEs, or engaging with children, schools, and parents, storytelling is at the core of my approach. It serves as a bridge to connect with people, inspire them, and facilitate meaningful connections.

Storytelling matters because it allows us to communicate ideas, share experiences, and convey profound truths. Stories have the power to captivate audiences, challenge beliefs, and ignite change. They provide a platform for empathy and understanding, allow… Read more

I didn't start out with the intention to become a dream decipherer - it was a family gift I took for granted and even hid for many years.

I first realized that dreams were important and meant something when I was eight years old, when I dreamed about the home of one of my aunts and her six children burning down. It scared me to know that dreams actually meant something.

Even at a young age, people talked to me about their dreams and I just "knew" what they were about, no matter how strange or outlandish they seemed.

However, it wasn't until one of my own dreams literally saved my life - from 9/11 - that I felt I needed to pay more attention to the messages they contained. I was a stockbroker working in a building attached to the Towers and walked through them every day on my journey to work and during the execution of my work.… Read more

  • Andra Coros

Most of my childhood and teenage life was revolving around struggling to learn German and pleasing my parents with the high grades in school. I found solace in the discipline, philosophy, and community I found at my martial arts classes, by losing myself in the reality and alter-ego built in the renowned World of Warcraft game, or excessively indulging in the fantasy world of Harry Potter. Living life unconsciously, on the surface, and almost totally oblivious to my true hearts’ desires, was the norm. I always considered struggle, the desire to achieve, the mockery of fantastical worlds, normal and never questioned them. In my teenage years, I experienced the heavy stigma around mental health in Romania, especially in my family, and could sense the general vibe around my community. I found myself lost and depressed with nobody to help me and no real option for healing my soul.
